Manuscript inscriptions (faded and in parts illegible) on title page: [1] "Mr [T]aill[e]r booke of [B]yrbye Hylle. 1623. 0=6=0"; [2] (in sixteenth-century hand) "Codex venerabilis patris domini Steffani Sagar nuper monasterij de heyles in Anglia moderatoris Abbatis ... [one? word, illegible] veritissimi"; and [3] (autograph signature) "Stephan Sagar" [i.e. Stephen Sagar (d. in or before 1551), who was the last abbot (from 1527) of the Cistercian abbey at Hailes near Winchcombe, Gloucestershire, before its dissolution in 1539]. Manuscript marginal notes, underscoring and fists in sixteenth or seventeenth-century hand(s).
