Label on front pastedown: 'Lypiatt Park' "147". Capital letter "R" written in pencil on front free endpaper. Manuscript inscription on verso of front free endpaper: "To J.E. Dorington on his Birthday July 1845 from his affectionate Father." [i.e. to Sir John Edward Dorington (1832-1911) from his father, John Edward Dorington (d. 1874); Lypiatt Park was their home from 1847]. Minor pencil marks on front and rear endpapers. Binding: nineteenth-century, full red cloth; blind tooled decorative border and cornerpieces; gilt centrepieces: Eton College Chapel on upper board and Thomas Gray's monument in Stoke Poges on lower board; spine gilt; binder's ticket on rear pastedown: 'Bound by Remnant & Edmonds London'.
