Provenance: signature of Henry James on half-title page [i.e. the novelist Henry James (1843-1916)]; manuscript notes by Robert Wyndham Ketton-Cremer on front pastedown and verso of front free endpaper on his purchase of the book from a bookseller at Rye and the identification of the signature. Manuscript inscription on recto of front free endpaper: "R.W. Ketton-Cremer Felbrigg 1949." [i.e. Robert Wyndham Ketton-Cremer (1906-1969)]. Binding: nineteenth-century, full publisher's blue cloth; double and triple blind fillets forming outer and inner borders; centre panel surrounded by border of two blind fillets, interlinked at each corner; gilt lettering and floral spray on spine.
