Summary
Ornately decorated Indian festival decoration, in three separate sections. The top section appears to be made of plant stems or rushes, fashioned into a round piece and bowed. They are wrapped alternately with a muslin fabric dyed in yellow, purple, pink and green, separated by a band of gold tinsel. Suspended at either end is a bell-shaped pompom, and a disc, that also appear at the bottom. All three pompoms are present, made from gold card covered by natural pearls in vertical lines, and having a purple base covered in gold sequins and thread. The elongated side sections have a flat orange back, the bowed fronts being decorated with wine velvet strips decorated in gold sequins and beadwork. Between each of these strips are green foil strips covered in a line of pearls. At either side of the decorations are lines of ruched pink fabric in between gold tinsel. On the left one is a small bird (incomplete), orange in colour with a pearl at his neck. The right one has a wooden skewer protruding near the base. Delicate condition. Overall colours wine and gold, with a multicoloured top.
Provenance
