Loosely inserted : air mail envelope inscribed, "This poem by Stephen Spender, is unpublished, and was found and copied by him at Sissinghurst and returned to this book, in Aug. 1986. He thinks it a good poem. N.N." [Nigel Nicolson (1917-2004)]. Typescript poem (1 folded sheet) inside, entitled 'Hampstead autumn', with additional ms. inscription, "For Vita & Harold from Stephen Dec 2 1937." [Poem in fact published with minor changes in 'The still centre' (Faber, 1939).] Provenance: inscribed "V.N. Sissinghurst July 1933" [i.e. Vita Sackville-West [Nicolson], 1892-1962]. Binding: publisher's black cloth, gold lettered spine.
