Twentieth-century armorial bookplate (large variant), signed Badeley 1930: ‘Urban Huttleston Rogers Lord Fairhaven’ [i.e.: Huttleston Rogers Broughton, 1st Lord Fairhaven (1896-1966)]. Binding: Early twentieth-century full maroon morocco; single gilt fillet to form an outer border; gilt tooled centrepieces: coat of arms of the House of Hanover surmounted by a crown, with red and yellow inlaid morocco to form the field of the shield; gilt stamped cornerpieces (roses); sewn onto five raised cords; spine lettered direct (gilt tooled): 'The Electress Sophia' and 'A.W. Ward'; gilt stamped roses in spine compartments; gilt stamped lion (crest of Edward Penton) in final spine compartment; double gilt fillet on board edges; elaborate gilt rolled turn-ins; gilt top edge; green watered silk endleaves. Binder's gilt stamp on front turn-in: 'Bound by Zaehnsdorf 1904'. Binder's device gilt stamped on rear pastedown.
