Summary
The newspaper cutting and handwritten note kept together in the book 'Discussion at Worksop, between the Rev. R.P. Blakeney ... and the Rev. J.B. Naghten ... reported verbatim by T. Whitehead' by Richard Paul Blakeney (1820-1884) (record 3138603). The newspaper cutting has the paper and date handwritten on the bottom in black ink by William Jnr. 'TIMES 11 NOVr 1948'. The article on one side reads; 'PATRONESS OF MADRID CROWNED FROM OUR CORRESPONDENT MADRID, Nov, 10 Large, ornate, and immensely valuable golden crowns, studded with jewels, were placed to-day by Bishop Eijo y Garay upon the image of Our Lady of Almudena and the Infant Jesus. Markets, shops and offices in Madrid were ordered to remain shut until the afternoon as a sign of the Madridiens' worship of their paponess one of the most highly venerated of the 72 crowned images of the Virgin Mary in Spain. Full military honours were rendered to the divine effigy at an open- air Mass. The ceremony, which was enhanced by the brilliant sunshine, marked the .. canonical coronation of the kind in the past two years, and the 15th since 1944.'.
