Several leaves of manuscript notes on the text have been removed and are now in conservation folder shelved at the beginning of the shelf. Provenance: Inscribed on half-title: "A McDonnell [possibly Alexander McDonnell (1857-1945)] from his affecte brother Antrim [prob. William Randall McDonnell, 6th Earl of Antrim (1851-1918)] Glenarm Jan. 4th 1875". Under this: "Circe [i.e. Edith Lady Londonderry] with love from Fox [poss. Alexander McDonnell (1857-1945), son of the 5th Earl of Antrim and Clerk of the House of Lords, or his sister Lady Jane Clinton nee McDonnell (1863-1953)]". Twentieth-century armorial bookplate (dated 1922) with portrait: "Edith Helen Marchioness of Londonderry. D.B.E." [i.e. Edith Helen Chaplin, m. in 1899 Charles 7th Marquess of Londonderry]. Motto in Scottish Gaelic over portrait ("Tha mo cridhe's an tir nam beann" [My heart is in the land of mountains]). Binding: Nineteenth-century publisher's full green cloth, gilt lettering on spine, brown endpapers. Historic repair to re-attach upper board with tape.
