With a letter laid in from Agnes Jekyll to Mrs. Knight at p.150, dated Monday 13 Aug. 34: "I shall be proud, of course, to inscribe in my ridiculous kitchen book, & it is very nice of you to approve of it - it was written to pacify Lord Northcliffe who said women never read his Times ... Since then I bother less & less about food, realising how the nicest things are apples, & bread & cheese , & homemade bread, & cold water, & these need no recipes ...".
