Running number: 5949. $zProvenance: manuscript inscriptions on front fly-leaf: [1] in black ink "ce Liure ap[p]artient a denise gueri 1699" [i.e. one Denis or Denys Guérin or Guéry (fl. 1699)]; [2] in pencil "C&P" [i.e. "collated and perfect", but does not appear to be in the hand of the bibliophile Thomas Rawlinson (1681-1725)]; and [3] an equation in black ink totalling "2: 11 -". Manuscript inscription at head of title page: "Bibliothecae Colbertinae" [i.e. from the library of the great French bibliophile Jean-Baptiste Colbert, Marquis de Seignelay (1619-1683), Chief Minister to Louis XIV; written in the hand of his librarian, Étienne Baluze (1630-1718). Colbert’s library was dispersed at a sale in Paris, 24 May-21 October 1728, and at two sales in London (23 April 1729 and 17 November 1735)]. Manuscript inscription in black ink (in same hand as that on front fly-leaf) on rear fly-leaf: "a denise gueri 1699". Binding: seventeenth-century limp vellum; sewn on five tawed leather sewing supports; holes in fore-edge of covers for two pairs of ties (missing, stubs remain on fold-in); spine cracked, partially missing; manuscript title on edge of foot of text block: "obseruaoñ- d. simeō.".
