Full description
**The Inscribed Books Collection, to which this book belongs, consists of gift inscriptions on third party books given to Sir Winston Churchill from friends, family, and well-wishers, unsolicited presentation copies of books by strangers, as well as presentation copies from authors who were genuine friends and colleagues. After his death in January 1965, Churchill personally bequeathed the collection via his Will as a testament to his national and international achievements. William Wiehe Collins H.R.I. R.B.C. (1862 – 1951) was an English architectural and landscape genre painter Between 1884 and 1885, Collins studied at the Lambeth School of Art following which he attended the Académie Julian in Paris between 1886 and 1887. From 1886 he exhibited at many of the London galleries including the Royal Academy, Royal Society of British Artists (elected 1906) and the Royal Institution (elected 1898). He served in the Dardanelles and Egypt in the Navy during the First World War. He travelled widely producing paintings in England, Spain and Italy. He died in Cossington, Somerset on 16 February 1951 leaving his wife, Jane. (https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/3280246.W_W_Collins) From correspondence found in the Archive, almost certainly relating to the gift of this book, it seems that W.W. Collins was the father of Rosa Maude (CHAR 1/178/5 & CHAR 1/178/4)
