Provenance: Late nineteenth-century (?) armorial bookplate: Hugh Cecil Earl of Lonsdale [(1857-1944), not found in Franks]. Bequeathed to the National Trust by Norman Norris (1917-1991). Inscribed on flyleaf in Norris's hand: Lowther Cas. N12/= 5/47 [Lowther Castle, home of the Lowther family, Earls of Lonsdale]. Binding: Nineteenth-century full grey calf over boards; gilt fillets and roll-tools to form a border; the Lonsdale gilt centrepiece stamp with cypher "Lowther"; gilt-panelled spine; brown leather spine label with title 'Cowper Burns and Bloomfield illustrated'; sewn on four raised bands.
