Provenance: manuscript letter from author on 2 leaves, folded and affixed to additional leaf preceding frontispiece, signed W. Cobbett and dated Kensington, Saty. 5 March, 1831. Recipient not named (Cunliffe?). Letter celebrates the success of his campaign for political reform: "The job is done!". Later nineteenth- or early twentieth-century hand (Cunliffe's?), on flyleaves and additional leaf affixed to frontispiece: extensive notes on Cobbett's life and writings. Bequeathed to the National Trust by Norman Norris (1917-1991). Late nineteenth- or early twentieth-century armorial bookplate lettered Henry Cunliffe (Not found in Franks). Inscribed on flyleaf in Norris's hand: Lord Cunliffe's Liby. S. [i.e. Sotheby's] 27/5 46 Lot 560 Đ8-5 With Cobbet's letter.. Binding: Nineteenth-century half red morocco binding; marbled paper over boards; spine gilt, with title 'Cobbett's Rural rides'; sewn on five raised bands.
