Philip Astle (d.1830) of Battersea Rise changed his surname to Hills on inheriting the manor of Colne Park, Essex, from the Hills family. He was the son of Thomas Astle (1755-1803) of Battersea Rise, noted book and manuscript collector]. Bequeathed to the National Trust by Norman Norris (1917-1991). Inscribed on flyleaf in Norris's hand: Đ1-10-0. Colne Park sale 1940. H. [i.e. Hodgson's] 18/1 40 Lot 567.. Binding: Nineteenth-century full reddish brown morocco over boards; gilt fillets, cornerpieces and pictorial central stamp of castle; spine gilt, with title 'Bosworth-field'.
