Provenance: Late nineteenth-century (?) armorial bookplate: Hugh Cecil Earl of Lonsdale [(1857-1944), not found in Franks]. On flyleaf: pressmark in pencil. Bequeathed to the National Trust by Norman Norris (1917-1991). Binding: Eighteenth-century full diced tree calf over boards; gilt fillet to form a border and inner border; the Lonsdale gilt centrepiece stamp lettered "Lowther" with earl's coronet (Lowther family were Earls of Lonsdale); spine gilt; brown leather spine label with title 'Guide to the Lakes'.
