Provenance: Twentieth-century armorial bookplate, signed G.S. 24 [1924]: ‘Urban Huttleston Rogers Broughton’ [i.e.: Huttleston Rogers Broughton, 1st Lord Fairhaven (1896-1966)]. Binding: Nineteenth-century full dark blue morocco; double gilt fillet to form an outer border; gilt outer roll and blind rolls to form a panel design with a blind stamped centrepiece; sewn onto three recessed cords; five false bands; spine gilt, lettered direct (gilt tooled): 'Remarkable characters' and 'Caulfield / 1.'; gilt rolled board edge corners and turn-ins; gilt textblock edges; grey endpapers.
