Summary
One of thirteen books gifted by the author to Lady Churchill, between 1889 and 1907. Paul Bourget received Lady Randolph Churchill at his residence called the Plantier de Costebelle (Palm House), his home from 1896 till his death in 1935, located in the commune of Hyères-les-Palmiers , in the department of Var, south France. There is correspondence sent by Paul Bourget to Lady Randolph Churchill found in the ‘Churchill Archive’, 1895-1899. Les Deux Soeurs (The Two Sisters): During a trip to Ragatz, Madeleine Liébeau, the wife of a famous Parisian surgeon, met up with Commander Brissonnet, a young hero from the African military campaigns who also came to take the waters. She finds this man friendly, and decides to introduce him to his older sister Agathe, a widow of fresh date. But ... is she really sincere in her project? Is not she trying to get the handsome commander in his family to rub elbows more easily? And this M. Brissonnet, from whom will he finally fall in love, the respectable wife, or the young widow? Here is a poignant love triangle that Bourget offers us. Inscription Translation: Respectueux souvenir d'un devoue - In respectful remembrance, from a devoted [friend]
