Provenance: I.g.3 has a letter from "Sir Henry Crewe" dated Calke Abbey April 16 1810 loosely inserted [i.e. Sir Henry Harpur, 7th Baronet (1763-1819), changed surname to Crewe in 1808]; I.g.1 has a Nineteenth-century large Harpur, Crewe, Lovell and [unidentified] armorial bookplate, with inscription: Calke Abbey Library [i.e. Sir John Harpur Crewe, 9th Baronet (1824-1886), m. 1845 Georgiana Stanhope Lovell (1824-1910)]. Binding: Nineteenth-century full diced leather binding; elaborate gilt border and panel; spine gilt decorated and gilt lettered.
Provenance
Transferred to the National Trust by the Treasury in lieu of CTT in 1985 with an endowment provided by the NHMF.
