Bequeathed to the National Trust by Norman Norris (1917-1991). Forms part of a set with Roscoe's Life ... of Leo the Tenth, on v.1 of which is inscribed in Norris's hand: 7/6. 9 vols. Deerleap Rowland's Castle 1938 H. [i.e. Hodgson's] 9/3 38 Lot 253. [i.e. Deerleap, Rowlands Castle, Hampshire; its library, property of the late Admiral M. P. O'Callaghan, was sold by Hodgson's 9 March 1938].. Binding: Nineteenth-century full calf over boards; gilt tools within double gilt fillets to form a border; gilt-rolled edges and inner border; gilt floral spine tools and fillets; gilt spine title; sewn on five raised bands.
