Bequeathed to the National Trust by Norman Norris (1917-1991). Inscribed on flyleaf in Norris's hand: Sotheby 1939 10/-.. Binding: Nineteenth-century half red morocco binding over marbled boards; gilt and blind fillets; gilt panelled spine; brown spine label with title "Doctor Syntax in Paris"; sewn on five raised bands.
