Summary
Bibliographic description
xxxv, [3], 363 p. ; 8vo. With insert: Letter (one folded leaf) from J. George to Julius Drew, dated 7 or 8 December 1921, sent from 22 Marina, St Leonards-on-Sea: 'My dear Julius, I have the pleasure of sending you Lord Selbourne's book on the Defence of the Church of England against Disestablishment, in which you will find a chapter on tithes, tracing the history of tithes from the beginning. I believe it is very reliable, but as the book was published 40 years ago, it does not carry the history on to the present day - Please keep it as long as you like. We are busy looking out for a little furnished house, but find it difficult to get one near a church we like - I am feeling better for the change & for the good fare you kindly provided for me - I regret we have not been able yet to let our house at Cambridge but we hope to do so soon. I am very grateful for your kind arrangements but I hope I shall not have to avail myself of it for long. With our united love to you all, Yours very sincerely J. George'. Provenance: Purchased from A. Drewe. Bookseller's ticket on upper pastedown: 'George Gregory Bookseller to H.M. Queen Alexandra, Bath'. With inscriptions on upper flyleaf crossed out and replaced with 'J. George'. Binding: Publisher's blue cloth case binding with gilt lettering.
