[i.e. Philip Yorke, 1st Earl of Hardwicke (1690-1764), created Baron Hardwicke, 1733, and Earl of Hardwicke, 1754. Also used in books acquired by his successors, in this case probably Charles Philip Yorke, 4th Earl of Hardwicke (1799-1873)]. manuscript inscription on vol. 31 front fly-leaf: "Hardwicke" [i.e. Charles Philip Yorke, 4th Earl of Hardwicke].. Binding: Nineteenth-century diced calf bindings; triple gilt fillet border; gilt roll on board edges; gold-tooled spines, with gilt stamps of royal coat of arms, and black title and vol. no., labels. Marbled edges and endpapers.
