Thought to have been sold from Baddesley Clinton in the John Margetts and Sons auction of 12-14 March 1940. Provenance: nineteenth-century armorial bookplate on upper paste-down: "Edward Heneage Dering" [i.e.Edward Heneage Dering (1826-1892)]. Signature on verso of upper free endpaper: "Cholmeley Edwd. Dering" {i.e. Lt.-Col. Cholmeley Edward Dering (1818-1881) or Cholmeley Edward John Dering (1790-1848)]. Binding: nineteenth-century full polished calf; single gilt fillets to form borders; dark green endpapers; spine: sewn on to five raised bands; compartments with blind and gilt toolingdevices; titles gilt, lettered direct.
