Binding: Late nineteenth-century full dark blue morocco; triple gilt fillet to form an outer border; gilt stamped monogram 'EM' [i.e. Ernest Meissonier] as centrepiece on upper board, within large single gilt fillet frame; sewn onto five raised bands; gilt tooled spine, lettered direct (gilt tooled): 'Meissonier / Gréard. Vol. I.'; double gilt fillet on board edges; triple gilt fillet on turn-ins; gilt top edges; marbled endpapers; blue ribbon marker. Binder's gilt stamp on front turn-in: 'Bickers & Son. London. W.'.
