Binding: Twentieth-century full tan morocco; blind fillet to form an outer border; blind tooled borders of cockerels at head and foot of boards; sewn onto recessed cords; spine lettered direct (blind stamped): 'The Vigil of Venus'; blind tooled cockerel at head and foot of spine; blind rolled board edges; double blind fillet on turn-ins. Binder's blind-stamp on front turn-in: 'Bound by S & S. London' [i.e. Sangorski & Sutcliffe]. In brown cloth-covered slip-case.
