Not indigenous. Shelved and uniformly bound with "An historical account of those parishes in the county of Middlesex. …"(1800) and the "Supplement to the first edition of the historical account of The environs of London. …" (1811). Provenance: (1) Vols. 1-5 bear a small black ink stamp below the imprint date: WB [initials within a circlet of arrows]; (2) Nineteenth-century crest bookplate: Saml:. Reynolds Solly (Not in Franks) [Samuel Reynolds Solly (d. 1889), of Serge Hill, Hertfordshire]; (3) Vol. 1 bears an armorial bookplate: Norman E.S. Norris Patcham [with motto Respice Finem]. Pencil shelf-mark on Norris's bookplate: E/4. Bequeathed to the National Trust by Norman Norris (1917-1991). Vol. 1 front free endpaper verso is inscribed by Norris: Cat.I.8.a.vi [and] H. 4/5 '38. Lot 282. 26/=. [i.e. 1938 Hodgson's sale]. Binding: rebacked late eighteenth- or early nineteenth-century sheep over boards on five recessed cords, single gilt fillet on covers and board edges, original black leather spine labels with gilt tooling titles and numbering on new spine leather with blind tooling, blue sprinkled edges.
