Provenance: Manuscript inscription on front free endpaper: "Simon Yorke a New Years gift from Victoria Jan 1st. 1856" [i.e. Simon Yorke (1811-1894), from his wife Victoria Mary Louisa Yorke (1823-1895)].. Binding: Nineteenth-century elaborately blind-tooled green sheepskin binding, over bevelled wooden boards. Gilt roll on turn-ins. Gilt gauffered edges.

Given by Philip Yorke III (1905-1978) along with the estate, house and contents to the National Trust in 1973
