Seventeenth-century[?] shelfmark on front fly-leaf: "Go.28". Binding: late sixteenth-century[?] full calf; sewn on six double cords; lavishly gold-tooled all-over: broad outer frame filled with repeated arabesque tool between double fillets, central panel with a semis background of repeated small fleurons, large oval pictorial centrepiece depicting the Crucifixion (sun, moon, stars and clouds above Jesus crucified, the Virgin Mary and Mary Magdalene on either side of the cross, skull and bones at the foot of the cross, a city in the background) and strapwork cornerpieces; gilt fillet and diagonal hatched roll decoration along board edges; gold-tooled spine; remnants of leather title label on spine; all edges gilt.
