Provenance: manuscript initial on front fly-leaf: "M." [i.e. catalogue code of John Mitchell (ca. 1685-1751), librarian to Sir Richard Ellys (1682-1742)]. Manuscript codes on verso of final blank leaf and rear pastedown: "d:b:- / d:d:-i / -:dg:-" and "t:dd / b:e / do:d". Binding: by one of Jean Grolier's binders, possibly from the workshop of Jean Picard or maybe the Fleur-de-Lis Binder? French, sixteenth-century black goatskin over pasteboards. Blind and gilt fillet frame, filled with repeated gilt arabesque stamps. Gilt centrepiece of one arabesque stamp repeated four times and a smaller arabesque stamp repeated twice. Single blind fillet along board edges. Spine has eight panels, seven with two alternating gilt stamps, one with gilt title 'Biblia Leonis Juda' on brown goatskin label, and with blind fillets and hatching at head and foot. All edges gilt.
