With manuscript notes and dates throughout, explained in a note by Sir George Otto Trevelyan (1838-1928) on the endpaper: 'The marginal lines and notes are from Macaulay's Deux Ponts edition. NB. I did not read through Aulus Gellius: but observed the contents of the chapter, glanced through the text if it excited my curiosity, and carefully read all, and all around, Macaulay's notes and marginal lines.' Manuscript dates of reading: 'June 13 1836 Oct 6 1837' (i.e. dates copied from Macaulay's copy); 'Wallington July 16 1918', on p. 70. Provenance: Pastedown obscures armorial bookplate of former owner, lettered S.T. Galton (possibly Samuel Tertius Galton, 1783-1844)..
