Copious marginal marks and manuscript notes in the hand of Sir George Otto Trevelyan (1838-1928). manuscript on flyleaf reads: 'The notes in ink, and the marginal lines, are all taken from Macaulay's Dindorf edition, and are his. X this mark is a reference to the notes at the end'. Note on p.127 reads: 'Macaulay translated this dialogue to us aloud. I remember his enjoyment about the marked sentence.' Date of reading: Nov 8-20 1915. 'I read the Memorabilia at Malvern in September 1857, 58 years ago, between Harrow and Cambridge; and never I think, since. Delightful reading it is.'
