Four loosely inserted typescript pages (duplicate; anonymous) with thoughts about why England went to war in 1939 and the importance of maintaining "the balance of power" in Europe, dated September 1943. Provenance: Inscribed on flyleaf "From the "Fultrus" with their best wishes! Mount Stewart, April 1943".Gilt armorial stamp displaying Vane-Tempest-Stewart marshalled with Chaplin under a marquess coronet with charges and motto (Metuenda corolla draconis) [used by Edith Helen Londonderry nee Chaplin (1879-1959), or by her husband Charles Vane-Tempest-Stewart, 7th Marquess of Londonderry from 1915]. Binding: Twentieth-century half blue grained calf on blue cloth. Five false raised bands, lettered direct in gilt on spine. Gilt armorial stamp on upper cover. Gilt-top.
