With a letter loosely inserted between front endpapers, addressed to "Dear Lady Londonderry", signed by "Frank" with a postscript by "Jean" [perhaps the author and his wife?], dated 14.XII.55. In the letter, the author makes some recommendations for fruit shrubs suitable for walls. Provenance: Twentieth-century armorial bookplate (dated 1922) set in a landscape with De Lazlo's portrait of Edith Lady Londonderry in the uniform of the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps in a medallion above, lettered at the bottom of the plate "Edith Helen Marchioness of Londonderry. D.B.E." . Motto in Scottish Gaelic over portrait ("Tha mo cridhe's an tir nam beann" [My heart is in the land of mountains]) [i.e. Edith Helen Chaplin, m. in 1899 Charles Vane-Tempest-Stewart, Viscount Castlereagh and 7th Marquess of Londonderry from 1915].
