Manuscript marginal notes in a sixteenth or seventeenth-century hand on leaves a6r, a8v, b1r, i8r, p8r, &5r; manuscript manicules on leaves e6v, e7v. Provenance: washed-out sixteenth or seventeenth-century manuscript inscriptions (possibly in verse) on title page. Sixteenth-century manuscript inscription on verso of title page, partially obscured by a paper repair: "hu[n]c libru[m] ego plorauas[?] … stoleis ernj[?] pro uno cardu… anno 1578 a D Hieronim… colatello / E coso do sapienti ali tem… barlare / dulce est desipere i[n] loco". Eighteenth-century manuscript inscription in black ink on second front fly-leaf verso (facing title page): "V. 1717 5m J Bridges" [i.e. purchase code, date and autograph of John Bridges (1666-1724), antiquarian and lawyer; Bridges' library was sold in London, 7 Feb. 1725/26]. Possibly lot 2186 in Bridges sale catalogue 'Bibliothecae Bridgesianae catalogus' (London, 1725 [i.e. 1726]). Library of Sir Richard Ellys (1682-1742) of Nocton, Lincolnshire; Ellys bought a number of books at the Bridges library sale in 1726. Manuscript capital letter written in ink at head of first front fly-leaf: "S" (found in a number of Blickling's books but unknown as to what it means). Binding: eighteenth-century full calf; sewn on five supports; double gilt fillet border, blind-tooled panel of a floral roll with double and single fillets, with blind cornerpiece stamps; gilt roll on board edges; gold-tooled spine with acorn tools; brown leather title label on spine; red sprinkled bookblock edges.
