With a few manuscript marginal notes, e.g. on leaves XVIII, XXVII, XCIX, and an abstract doodle/symbol in ink on leaf LXXXI. Provenance: manuscript inscription at head of title page: "Bibliothecae Colbertinae" [i.e. from the library of the bibliophile Jean-Baptiste Colbert (1619-1683), chief minister of France to Louis XIV; possibly written by Colbert’s librarian Étienne Baluze (1630-1718)]. Colbert’s library was dispersed at a sale in Paris, 24 May-21 October 1728. Possibly bought at the sale by Sir Richard Ellys (1682-1742) of Nocton, Lincolnshire. Manuscript inscription on fly-leaf facing title page: "Regra:" [i.e. title note and catalogue entry for works with no named author, written by John Mitchell (ca. 1685-1751), librarian to Sir Richard Ellys]. Binding: sixteenth-century[?] limp parchment; sewn on three supports; holes in fore-edge for two pairs of ties (missing); fore-edges extended and folded over; manuscript title "Regra e statuo de Ordem de Sancti" written along length of spine; spine cracked and partially missing across the middle over the middle sewing support. Front and rear pastedowns have the same watermark (hand with sun rays issuing from a finger) as the leaves comprising the textblock; manuscript visible on the reverse of the rear pastedown.
