Provenance: Early twentieth-century (?) armorial bookplates lettered "barlborough hall" [i.e. Barlborough Hall, near Chesterfield, Derbyshire; library formed by Reaston and Rodes families]. Bequeathed to the National Trust by Norman Norris (1917-1991). Inscribed on v.1 pastedown in Norris's hand: Barlborough Hall sale 1938 4 vols [with 2.C.23-4] 6/4. H [i.e. Hodgson's] 7/7 38 Lot 471.. Binding: Nineteenth-century full mottled calf; double gilt fillets to form a border; spines gilt; red and green spine labels. Vol. 1 rebacked in leather, preserving original spine. Vol. 2: upper board loose. Small binder's stamps: Townsend.
