Orientation: Vertical Text Substrate: hand-made wove paper Ink/Pigment: black printing and engraving ink Type: BOUND BOOK Binding Type: Inboard binding, recessed supports & false bands Date of Binding: 19.1 contemporary Binder's Name: British End Leaves: tipped single fold of red-brown, black and blue stone marble, made to a leaf of white handmade wove paper followed by a flyleaf of two sheets of the same pasted together; the outer marbled leaf is pasted to the board Structure: French Edges: plain cut, marbled (similar to endleaves), polished Spine Lining: depressed half-ellipse, square joints, no visible linings End Bands: worked L-R 1x1 in cream silk over a rolled paper main core and a cord crowning core Bookmark: dark blue silk ribbon glued to spine under headband Boards: 5mm rope fibre board, back-cornered, Covering: full red-brown russia calf, original dicing obscured by secondary dicing made regular to board shape Tooling Spine: titled direct in gold in panels 2, 3 and 4; large gold tooled central ornament made up from smaller tools in panels 1, 5 and 6, with gold-tooled diaper pattern at tail created by repeats of a zig-zag pallet or roll. Tooling Sides: gold-tooled thin/thick fillet border around blind-tooled roll, gold-tooled single fillet on board edges and turn-ins Furniture: None Enclosure: None Binding Notes: Small armorial bookplate of ‘Charles Winn / Nostell Library‘ inside front board.
