The Loménie de Brienne library was sold in London in 1724, when Sir Richard Ellys (1682-1742) undoubtedly purchased it. Manuscript price in pencil on verso of front free endpaper, written over in ink with new price: "0.4-6". Binding: French, early eighteenth-century dark red goatskin over pasteboards, traditionally attributed to Augustin Du Seuil (or his bindery); sewn on five cord supports; covers with single and double gilt fillet border with small round stamps in the corners, and with gilt armorial centrepiece stamp of the arms of Henri-Louis de Loménie, comte de Brienne in an oval with a crenelated fillet, supporters two lions rampant regardant, crest Mélusine in a tub; single gilt fillet along board edges; gilt roll pattern on turn-ins; gold-tooled spine in six panels, title in gilt on brown leather label in second panel; bookblock edges marbled under gilt; Turkish pattern marbled endpapers.
