Binding: nineteenth-century full reddish-brown goatskin; sewn on five supports; blind and gilt fillet panels with gilt knotwork cornerpieces, gilt centrepiece of Aldus's anchor and dolphin printer's device bisecting the name 'ALDUS'; double gilt fillet along board edges; gilt floral roll pattern along turn-ins; blind and gold-tooled spine, lettered direct with author's name and imprint; all edges gilt over red; nonpareil pattern marbled endpapers. Binder's ink-stamp on verso of front free endpaper: 'Bound by Riviere' [i.e. bound 1840-ca. 1860 in London by Robert Riviere (1808-1882)].
