Provenance: manuscript inscription on vol. 2 title page: "CH Suffield" [i.e. Lady Caroline Suffield (Caroline Hans Harbord) (1767-1850), daughter of John Hobart, 2nd Earl of Buckinghamshire; she married in 1792 William Assheton Harbord, who became 2nd Baron Suffield in 1810]. Binding: nineteenth-century half-bound gold-tooled dark green goatskin with marbled paper (rubbed) over boards; gilt title, vol. number, author and date on spines; head of textblock gilt, other sides untrimmed and plain.
