Provenance: Bookplate: Thomas Carlyle; also inscribed in ink on front edge of text-block: "T.Heathcote". Binding: full calf, spine tooled gilt; spine detached and damaged; the whole wrapped in brown paper over which TC's bookplate has been fixed; brown paper over spine has title in ms ink in TC's hand.
