MS. on page 67 of vol II reads: 'April 7 1908. Here we sent this book, not to be re-bound, but to have the famous old cover repaired, and the contents re-sown'.. Provenance: MS. on flyleaf: GO Trevelyan (i.e. George Otto Trevelyan, 1838-1928). In vol. II, this inscription is followed by '22 Princes Terrace'. Twentieth-century pictorial armorial bookplate, a re-working of an earlier William Bell Scott pictorial Trevelyan bookplate (Franks 29799) of Sir Walter Calverley Trevelyan (1797-1879), lettered: Charles & Mary Trevelyan [i.e. Sir Charles Philips Trevelyan (1870-1958), & Mary Katharine, (m.1904).] Arms: Trevelyan impaling Bell. Not in Franks.. Binding: Embossed cloth; gilt lettered on spine.
