29-42 p., plates : ill, map, plans ; 26cm. Loosely inserted bagage label of Lady Mairi Bury used as a bookmark [i.e. Mairi Vane-Tempest-Stewart (1921-2009) m. in 1940 Derek Keppel, Viscount Bury]. Provenance: Gilt armorial stamp displaying Vane-Tempest-Stewart marshalled with Chaplin under a marquess coronet with charges and motto (Metuenda corolla draconis). Twentieth-century armorial bookplate (dated 1922) set in a landscape with De Lazlo's portrait of Edith Lady Londonderry in the uniform of the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps in a medallion above, lettered at the bottom of the plate "Edith Helen Marchioness of Londonderry. D.B.E." . Motto in Scottish Gaelic over portrait ("Tha mo cridhe's an tir nam beann" [My heart is in the land of mountains]) [i.e. Edith Helen Chaplin, m. in 1899 Charles Vane-Tempest-Stewart, Viscount Castlereagh and 7th Marquess of Londonderry from 1915]. Binding: Twentieth-century full marbled paper over boards. Gilt-top, marbled endpapers. Original paper wrapper bound in. Stamped on verso flyleaf "Bound by Riviere and Son"
