Binding: Twentieth-century Cosway binding: full grey morocco; double gilt fillet (thick and thin) to form an outer border; miniature of Oliver Cromwell inset on upper board within double gilt fillet frame (thin and thick) and gilt stamped leaves; gilt stamped cornerpieces (leaves) on lower board; spine gilt, lettered direct (gilt tooled): 'Oliver Cromwell' and 'Buchan'; gilt stamped leaves in remaining spine compartments; sewn onto five raised cords; double gilt fillet on board edges; fore edge boards gilt-stamped: 'Cosway binding' and 'Invented by J.H.
