Provenance: Bequest of James de Rothschild, 1957. Provenance: Morgand et Fatout. Binding: contemporary dark brown calf, gilt. Boards have two blind and one gilt rule round the sides and a gilt cartouche in the centre. The latter has a winged cupid's head at top and bottom and a lion's head at each side. Carefully rebacked with new endpapers and spine relaid. The second spine compartment bears the lettering down the spine 'Entree.d./Anvers'. The binding is contemporary, but probably not by Plantin's bindery, on the evidence of the tools.
