Manuscript inscription on verso of vol. 1 front fly-leaf: "2. vol.", written in the hand of John Mitchell (ca. 1685-1751), librarian to Sir Richard Ellys (1682-1742). Manuscript inscription on verso of vol. 2 front fly-leaf: "2. vol. 1st. vol.". Very faint manuscript price in pencil on vol. 2 title page: "1-1-0". A few washed-out marginal annotations (sixteenth-century?) in vol. 2. Binding: eighteenth-century red goatskin; sewn on five raised bands; single gilt fillet border; single gilt fillet along board edges; gilt roll pattern along turn-ins; gold-tooled spines with floral tooling; brown leather title labels (partially missing on vol. 2) in gilt on spines; all edges gilt; comb and swirl pattern marbled endpapers.
