Provenance: Nineteenth-century armorial bookplate lettered John Gage, Lincoln's-Inn [i.e. John Gage (1786-1842), antiquary and topographer, member of the Gage family of Hengrave Hall, Suffolk, and author of 'The history and antiquities of Hengrave in Suffolk' (1822)]. Loosely inserted: manuscript letter to Gage, signed James Winton [?] and dated 24 Jan. 1822, discussing plates in the book. Bequeathed to the National Trust by Norman Norris (1917-1991). Binding: Inscribed on flyleaf in Norris's hand: Hengrave Hall 15/9 '52 Lot 93 Đ1.. Binding: Nineteenth-century half calf binding; marbled paper over boards; gilt spine fillets; red morocco spine label with title 'History of Winchester'; upper board detached.
