Binding: Sixteenth-century English roll calf binding over wooden boards, blind-tooled to a panel design. Outer frame formed by intersecting blind thin thick thin fillets; middle panel formed by blind roll heads in medallions roll pattern -- cf. Oldham HM.a(9); inner lozenge-shaped panel formed by blind roll heads in medallions roll pattern (Oldham HM.a(9)). Remnants of a pair of leather clasps with metal (brass?) rivets on front board; marks of a pair of metal catches on rear board. Rebacked. Modern typed binding note inserted at rear: 'The worm eaten inner edge of the back board was cut away and replaced with new quarter sawn beech, stuck with Cascamite wood glue. ... The book was rebacked in Oasis goatskin, ...".
