Summary
Valance for a bed. The central part is made from an old cotton sheet which has staining and holes. The frill along the two long sides is made of printed glazed cotton (well washed so the glazing has gone). The print is of pink roses and green leaves on a cream background. Five seams in the valance, box pleated onto a straight band. Four sets of cotton tapes sewn to the wrong side for attaching. Printed on the selvedge : REVOR REGD NO 379785 AND FOR WALLPAPER / 676 / 686. All machine-stitched except for the central pleat, the main part of which is hand-sewn. Poor condition, lots of holes and staining. Same rose design in glazed cotton print as cover (NT30504.1).
Provenance
Purchased from the estate of the late Lord Wraxall with the assistance of the NHMF and donations from members and supporters.
