Bequeathed to the National Trust by Norman Norris (1917-1991). Inscribed on v. 1 flyleaf in Norris's hand: Sotheby 1943 4 vol. 22 Dec. Đ6/11/0. Binding: Nineteenth-century full red morocco over boards; elaborate blind panel within gilt roll-tools and fillets to form a border; spine gilt, with title 'Remarkable characters'; sewn on four raised bands.
